ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL

You may recall a couple of years ago the School considered applying for Specialist Status and was required to raise £55,000.00.in order to support their request.
At that time we asked our Members what they thought would be a reasonable contribution from the Old Chingfordians and the consensus, from those who returned the questionnaire, was that £1000.00 would be an acceptable amount. Since that time there have been big changes at the school, not least the departure of Clive Moore and the arrival of Mark Morrall as Head teacher.
To help raise funds the School has launched a ‘Buy a Brick Campaign’ and is offering us the opportunity to buy personalised bricks to be included in a special Old Chingfordians bay.
Basically, in what was the corridor by the Biology Lab/ Music room in our days, the old window bays will be ‘bricked up’ and sold to interested parties.
The bricks are a very nice shade of blue-grey and will be engraved with silver lettering, the old School colours!
The backgound colour of the wall is blue. It is the intention of the Committee to buy a bay and for the cost of our donation we will be able to have the words
‘Chingford County High School’ with the School motto and the old School badge on display.
We are sure you will agree that this not only means that a part of the School will remain forever ‘ours', but will also give us something tangible for our money rather than just contributing to a general fund.
The idea is for our Members to buy individual bricks inscribed with their name and dates at the School to fill up the bay.
The School is selling the bricks for £30.00 each but because they value our support have offered them to us for just £15.00.
So if anyone would like to buy a brick for themselves or for a friend no longer with us who you wish to be remembered or a favourite teacher, please send your cheque to The Treasurer, Brenda Rafferty* detailing the inscription you would like.
For ladies we are suggesting the use of maiden names only as we are limited to 16 characters for the name and the same amount for the dates attended.
Please do support this initiative. We are sure you will agree it gives us the opportunity to do something positive for the School, and also serve as a permanent reminder of our part in the history of the School.
To date we have ordered 133 bricks and there is still some space left so please help us complete the bay.
Cheques should be payable to ‘Old Chingfordians Association’.
